The French Open finishes soon. The winner of the women's single's title has already been decided. Australia's Samantha Stosur went up against Francesca Schiavone of Italy on the 5th of June 2010.
Schiavone has never been in a final of a grand slam before this year's French Open. Francesca was seeded at number 17 and she has made history at being one of the only few seeded outside the top 10 to win a grand slam.
Both players had never been to the French Open final before. Sam came close in 2009 and reached the semi finals. This year Samantha has reached the finals but couldn't make much of dent against Francesca.
Even though Sam had beat Serena Williams and Justin Henin she couldn't repeat her great performances yesterday. At age 26 Sam wasn't the oldest on court that day. Francesca is aged 29 and is peaking late in her career.
Every was hoping for three sets when Sam was down a set and up 4-1 in the second. The second set eventually ended in a tie break where Italy's Francesca took it up a notch and had 4 championship points at 6-2 in the tie break. She didn't need all four opportunities and just took out the next point to win 7-2.
Francesca was over the moon to win the French Open and we all know that it is not the end of the road for Samantha Stosur. Wimbleton is up next and all eyes are on these two great women tennis players.
In conclusion, Samantha Stosur and Francesca Schiavone have played a great match to end the French Open. Francesca has triumphed over Sam in two great sets.
